Polish President Andrzej Duda has urged the dismantling of Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipelines, even if a peace deal is reached between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Duda warned that resuming Russian gas flows would pose a grave threat to Central Europe and risk renewed Russian economic dominance over Europe.
Built by Gazprom, Nord Stream 1 was shut down in 2022, while Nord Stream 2 never became operational.
Both pipelines were damaged by explosions later that year.
Germany’s AfD party has since suggested restoring them to ease energy costs.
Duda strongly opposed the idea:
"This pipeline is a threat to Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, and other Central European nations - not just militarily, but economically."
