Unpopular Opinion: Sins of Their Fathers
Should Ukraine Launch an Assassination Program Targeting the Descendants of Russian Leaders Involved in the War?
The Russian invasion has devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, erasing generations of potential future Ukrainians from existence. Historically, post-war trials have seldom delivered true justice to those responsible for such atrocities.
Take, for instance, German General Heinz Lammerding, who ordered the destruction of the French town of Oradour-sur-Glane, resulting in the massacre of nearly all its residents. Though sentenced to death in absentia by a court in Bordeaux, he was never extradited from West Germany. Lammerding lived out his life peacefully, dying of old age in 1971, leaving behind children and grandchildren.
To achieve true justice, the legacy of those responsible for Ukraine's destruction must end with them. Their actions should serve as a death sentence not only for themselves but also for their descendants. Such a policy would send a clear message, deterring future autocratic regimes from engaging in genocidal wars.
